After their triumph in the 2021 Regional Search for Outstanding Labor – Management Cooperation (LMC) Program, Hinatuan Mining Corporation (HMC) and Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) were both featured in Business World, Manila Times, Business Mirror and Manila Standard.

The companies were among the three regional winners in the regional level contest, which makes them qualified for the national level.

Carrying the theme “Responsiveness and Resilience in Times of Disruption”, the 2021 Regional Search for Outstanding LMC Program is an exceptional endeavor, recognizing organizations that have remained focused and true to the very essence of cooperation and partnership, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Doubtlessly, HMC and TMC remain resilient amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and has sustained industrial peace through their unswerving effort and commitment. This is truly a reflection of a sustained, active, and successful LMC.
Further, their commitment to job security most especially during crises was also highlighted in the news articles.

The Nickel Asia Corp. (NAC) and its subsidiaries, including HMC and TMC, advocates the #WalangNaFireBagkusNaghire where they lay value on the sense of job security to its employees especially amidst this pandemic.

In a telephone interview, Policarpo O. Asilo, President of Hinatuan Mining Labor Union-National Federation of Labor Unions-Kilusang Mayo Uno (HIMLU-NAFLU-KMU), shared the excellent relationship HMC has with its Labor Union.
“The Union and HMC management maintain a good and harmonious relationship by building trust and respect, with open table discussions in making decisions,” Asilo shared.

“The award is “proof of the unity and harmony between management and labor union,” Pedro D. Urbiztondo, TMC Labor Union president, said in a telephone interview.

“Through the LMC, programs and activities, and assistance are extended to employees as well as residents of neighboring communities,” he added.

In a separate interview, Mayett Panio Ravina, HR Manager at HMC, said: “Mine site management did not reduce its manpower despite huge expenses incurred in responding to COVID-19 and some due to delayed shipments because of the pandemic.”

A message sent by Dave Borquit, Jr., HR Manager for Cagdianao Mining, NAC subsidiary with operations in Dinagat Islands, stated that 29 permanent positions were filled despite the pandemic.

“The firm’s salary increase system, on top of regular salary, continues despite the economic and health crisis,” he added.

“This is plus the advanced release of the 13th month pay in March 2020, and midyear bonus in June, aside from the 15th and 16th month bonus released in the year-end, a policy implemented NAC-wide,” he concluded.

The Search for Outstanding LMC has been tagged as a special edition which aims to showcase the innovations brought by the cooperation of labor and management in minimizing the impact of COVID-19 and encourage social partners to improve workplace relations during the pandemic.

It is open to all organized and unorganized in small, medium, and large establishments registered with the appropriate government agencies. Nominees and applicants must also have an established LMC which has undertaken responsive measures in addressing the problems brought about by COVID-19 and have an LMC in existence at least since July 2020.

NCMB shall announce the winners for this twin Search on 15 December 2021 through an online awarding ceremony.#MaryCarmelleJumawan/RCMB13
